Step 12: Certification and Storage of Seeds

Seeds must be inspected and certified by the Crop Improvement Association and labeled to indicate scientific and common name, source location, production location, nativity of species, germplasm, certification and lot number.  Seed must be stored correctly.  Some species have short shelf lives.  Moisture levels must be kept low because fungi can destroy seed.  Also, high moisture content can cause seed to germinate in storage.
