Step 2: Training of Seed Collection Crews

Each season, an experienced botanist led the Seed Crew in their collection efforts.  The Seed Crew was trained in the identification of the selected native species, the importance in identifying and avoiding noxious weeds while collecting, timing of seed harvesting (maturity, viability), and identification of insect and disease damage.  Seed Crews were also trained in collection techniques for the various species: hand stripping, cutting stalks, using a racket, etc.
