Step 3: Location of Wildland Seed Collection Sites

Seed crews in Colorado covered over 1.5 million acres of country on and adjacent to the Uncompahgre Plateau to locate wildland seed collection sites.  The sites must have a significant stand of healthy plants occurring in their natural habitat.  The location of the site is mapped using GPS.  Because seed must be harvested when the plant goes to seed, the crews must return to a site several times to check the progress of the plant prior to collection.
