Step 4:  Wildland Seed Collection

Seed crews in Colorado collected seed on the Uncompahgre Plateau and adjacent public lands in the summer and fall field seasons of 2003 – 2005.  Each species was collected at various locations around the Plateau in order to represent the range of environments that the species occurs naturally.  The individual collections were kept separate during studies and cultivation. As of Fall 2005, Colorado crews collected 28 forbs, 15 grasses and 7 shrub species.   Over the three-year period, 249 separate collections were made and over 560 lbs of uncleaned seed collected.  Smaller collections have been made in both UT and CO in 2006 and 2007.
